Abstract:
This study aims to examine social mobility and its influence on the political awareness of youth by addressing the following dimensions: assessing the extent to which upward social mobility contributes to the development of political awareness among young people; exploring the relationship between weak or absent social mobility and the decline in youth political engagement; analyzing variations in patterns of political awareness according to youths’ social and economic statuses; and investigating the role of the social and cultural environment in shaping the relationship between social mobility and political awareness among youth. The researcher employed the descriptive methodology due to its appropriateness for the study objectives. The study reached the following findings:
-Upward social mobility significantly enhances political awareness among youth by increasing their interaction with political institutions and diverse social experiences, leading to a more mature and constructive political consciousness conducive to effective participation.
-The absence or weakness of social mobility results in political alienation among youth, diminishing their interest in political participation and often prompting withdrawal or engagement in non-political activities.
-Patterns of political awareness among youth vary notably according to their social and economic positions, with affluent youth tending to exhibit more organized and institutionalized political awareness, whereas marginalized youth demonstrate more critical or protest-oriented attitudes reflecting their socio-economic hardships.
-The social and cultural environment plays a pivotal role in mediating the relationship between social mobility and political awareness, where supportive and open environments foster political participation, while conservative or restrictive contexts inhibit it.
